Tip: the table scrolls horizontally. On narrow screens, the DNS Zone and Maintainer columns are hidden.

The "Response Code" is the raw IP address each list returned. A 127.0.0.x response generally means "Listed" — see Reading the Results for what each code means.
Some lists rate-limit high query volumes, so "No Response" can show up depending on the time of day.

HOW TO USE

How It Works — 3 Easy Steps

No technical knowledge required — just copy, paste, and check.

Enter the domain or IP address you want to check

If email isn't being delivered, check both the sender's domain (the part after the @) and the sending server's IP address. For a pre-purchase domain check, the domain name alone is enough.

Click "Check Blacklist Status" and wait

We query DNSBLs around the world at the same time. Because there are so many lists, it takes about 10–60 seconds to finish — just wait for the progress bar to reach 100%.

If the "Needs Attention" tab is empty, you're all clear

The "Needs Attention" tab (shown by default) lists only the blacklists you're registered on. If it's empty, you're not on any major blacklist. If even one shows up, see what to do next.

ABOUT DNSBL

What Is a DNSBL (Blacklist)?

A shared, global list of known spam sources that mail servers check before accepting mail.

DNSBL stands for DNS-based Blackhole List (also called RBL). It's a public database — maintained by volunteer groups and security companies — of IP addresses and domain names that have been reported as sources of spam.

The instant a mail server receives an email, it asks these lists — via DNS — whether the sender is a known spam source. If the answer is yes, the message is either rejected outright or routed straight to the spam folder. In other words, once you're listed, your email can disappear before the recipient ever sees it.

The tricky part: nobody notifies you when you get listed. You have to check for yourself — and that's exactly what this tool automates.

IP

IP Address Lists

These lists target the IP address of the server sending the mail. On shared hosting or a VPS, another tenant on the same IP sending spam can get you blacklisted too — even if you did nothing wrong.

D

Domain Lists (DBL / URIBL)

These target the domain name itself. Just mentioning the URL in an email body can trigger a block. A previously-owned, expired domain that was once used for spam can still show up here.

USE CASE

When to Use This Tool

Emails Not Being Delivered

It only fails to reach one person, or it keeps bouncing from one specific company. If the bounce message mentions blocked or spamhaus, start here.

🛒

Before Buying an Expired Domain

Check whether that cheap expired domain was previously used for spam — in a matter of seconds, before you buy. A must-do step for aged-domain SEO.

🖥

Before Signing Up for a Server or VPS

It's not uncommon for a freshly-assigned IP address to already be tainted by a previous tenant. Always check before going live.

📮

Before and After Sending a Newsletter

Right after a bulk send is when you're most likely to get listed. Checking after every campaign lets you catch deliverability drops early.

HOW TO READ

How to Read the Results

You really only need to look at the "Verdict" column. Start there.

Verdict Badges

BadgeWhat It Means
ListedYou're on a blacklist. This is likely affecting your email deliverability. Follow the removal steps.
Not ListedNot on that list. This is the normal, healthy state — most rows will show this.
Good (Whitelisted)You're on a whitelist (a list of trusted senders). This is a good sign — no action needed.
InfoNot a good/bad judgment — this list returns reference information only. Use it just as extra context.
No ResponseThat list didn't respond. This is usually a temporary rate limit or congestion issue and can generally be treated the same as "Not Listed." If you're concerned, try again later.

What the Response Codes (127.0.0.x) Mean

DNSBLs signal "listed" by returning an IP address in the 127.0.0.x range. The last number usually indicates the reason, though the exact meaning varies by list. Here are the most common ones:

Response CodeTypical MeaningNotes
(empty / no response)Not listedNormal — means you're not on the list.
127.0.0.2Registered as a spam sourceThe most common code. Actual spam sending has been observed.
127.0.0.3Spam source (automated detection)Detected automatically, e.g. via spam traps.
127.0.0.4127.0.0.7Malware / compromised host / open relayYour server may have been compromised — check it immediately.
127.0.0.10 / 127.0.0.11Dynamic IP / residential connectionFlagged as an IP that shouldn't send mail directly. Send through your provider's mail server instead.
127.0.1.xListed on a domain-based listUsed by domain-focused lists such as Spamhaus DBL.
127.255.255.xError (e.g. query limit exceeded)Doesn't mean you're listed — often returned when a free-tier query limit is reached.
💡

No need to panic over one or two listings.

Some smaller lists apply their own broad, sometimes outdated criteria, and a few have stopped being maintained entirely. What really matters is whether you're on a major list like Spamhaus, SpamCop, Barracuda, or SORBS. If you're on one of those, the impact is significant; if it's only smaller lists, real-world harm is usually minimal.

WHAT TO DO

If You're on a Blacklist

Filing a removal request before fixing the underlying cause just gets you re-listed. Order matters.

Check which lists you're on, and how

Note the list names and response codes shown in the "Needs Attention" tab. Whether it's your IP address or your domain name that's listed changes everything about what to do next.

Remove the underlying cause

Common causes: 1) a compromised email account from a leaked password, 2) your contact form being abused to send mail, 3) malware on your server, 4) blasting a purchased mailing list, or 5) collateral damage from another tenant on a shared server.

If nothing obvious comes to mind, start by changing your email password, adding reCAPTCHA to your forms, and updating your CMS and plugins.

Submit a removal request to each list

Follow the "Maintainer" link from your results to each list's official site, then submit the IP or domain to their Delist/Removal form. Most are free and clear within hours to a few days.

If you're on shared hosting and the fault isn't yours, don't file the request yourself — contact your hosting provider's support instead. Some lists can only be delisted by the IP's actual owner.

Set up protections against re-listing

Set up all three sender authentication standards — SPF, DKIM, and DMARC — and configure reverse DNS (a PTR record) for your sending IP. These are now considered table stakes; missing them alone can get your mail flagged as spam.

Check again in a few days

Use this tool to confirm the removal took effect and that you haven't been re-listed. If you send newsletters, make re-checking after every send a habit.

Spamming removal requests backfires.

Submitting repeated requests in a short time can, on some lists, extend the waiting period or leave paid instant removal as your only option. Fix the cause, request removal once, then wait — that's the fastest path.

MAJOR LISTS

The Major Lists That Matter Most

If your results show up on any of these, prioritize dealing with them first.

ListScopeImpact & Notes
Spamhaus (ZEN / SBL / XBL / PBL)IPThe world's most widely used blacklist. Major ISPs and large enterprises everywhere check it — being listed here is about as serious as it gets. Fix this one first.
Spamhaus DBLDomainTargets domain names. Just putting the URL in an email body can get it blocked. Always check this before buying an expired domain.
SpamCop (bl.spamcop.net)IPListings are added and removed automatically based on user reports. Stop the underlying cause and it usually clears on its own within about 24 hours.
Barracuda Reputation Block ListIPWidely used by corporate email gateways. If mail to businesses isn't arriving, check this one.
SORBSIPBroadly lists dynamic IPs and open relays. Its criteria are fairly strict — direct sending from a residential connection is also in scope.
UCEPROTECT (Level 1–3)IPLevels 2 and 3 list entire IP ranges at once, so you can end up listed through no fault of your own. Few mail providers actually check these, so don't lose sleep over anything beyond Level 1.
SURBL / URIBLDomainThese inspect URLs found inside email bodies. A history of being used for phishing or malware distribution gets a domain listed.
DNSWLIP (Whitelist)This one's a whitelist. Being on it marks you as a trusted sender — a "Listed" result here is actually good news.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it really free? Do I need to sign up?

Yes, it's completely free. No account, no login, and no limit on how many times you can use it. We never publish the domains or IPs you check in any public list, either.

Should I check the domain name or the IP address?

For diagnosing delivery problems, check both — the sending server's IP address and the domain after the @ in the sender's address are tracked by separate sets of lists.

For a pre-purchase check on an expired domain, the domain name is enough. Right after signing up for a new server or VPS, checking the IP address is enough.

Only one list showed up under "Needs Attention." Should I act on it right away?

It depends on which list. If it's a major one like Spamhaus, SpamCop, Barracuda, or SORBS, act right away — it really is affecting your email delivery.

If it's only an obscure, small-scale list, very few mail servers actually consult it, so real-world impact is typically minimal.

The check seems stuck or is taking a long time

We're querying several hundred lists, so it typically takes 10–60 seconds to finish — sometimes longer depending on network conditions. Please keep the page open and wait.

A lot of lists show "No Response" — is something broken?

Nothing's broken. Many DNSBLs rate-limit free high-volume queries and don't respond when busy, and some listed services are no longer actively maintained. You can treat "No Response" essentially the same as "Not Listed."

Can I check internationalized domain names (IDN)?

Yes. Any IDN you enter (e.g. accented or non-Latin characters) is automatically converted to Punycode (the "xn--" form) before we run the check.

My emails aren't reaching Gmail — is a blacklist to blame?

Being on a DNSBL is one possible cause, but Gmail also applies its own reputation criteria on top of that. If this tool shows "Not Listed," work through your SPF/DKIM/DMARC setup, reverse DNS for your sending IP, and your sending frequency and content next.

You can also check domain-level deliverability with Google's Postmaster Tools.

Are check results saved anywhere?

Yes — results are cached on our server for 30 days, and each result page has its own shareable URL you can revisit or send to others anytime. You can also use the "Copy Results" button to save them as plain text.

Does this affect SEO (search rankings)?

DNSBLs are an email-focused mechanism and don't directly determine search rankings. That said, a domain that shows up on a DNSBL was very likely used for spam or phishing in the past, and that history is itself a major risk for anyone repurposing an aged domain — making this a genuinely useful signal to check before you buy.

Before You Rely on These Results: This tool queries each DNSBL directly via DNS and displays the response as-is. Results reflect data maintained by each list's operator — we cannot add or remove any listing ourselves. List contents and the meaning of each response code can also change without notice at each operator's discretion. We accept no liability for any loss arising from use of these results; for anything important, please verify directly on the relevant list operator's official site.
